Trade-show week in eyewear: acetate and titanium are the pair to watch
Leeyewear

It is a full trade-show week for eyewear. IEE Paris - the Italian Eyewear Exhibition backed by ANFAO and the Italian Trade Agency - opens today, Sept 24, at Pavillon Cambon with 26 Italian makers. Tomorrow SILMO Paris opens at Paris Nord Villepinte and runs four days through Sept 28, with around 900 exhibitors and more than 1,500 brands on the floor. Moscow's MIOF is already under way at Crocus Expo, Sept 23–25.
Three shows, three markets - and the frames tell much the same story. One direction goes big: oversized acetate in deep, painterly colour - titian ochre, taffeta blue, tortoiseshell - with strong geometry and real volume on the face. SILMO's Trends Forum gives this mood a name, CHARISMA, and calls acetate its dominant material. The other direction goes light: thin titanium, small clean hinges, metal so fine it stays out of the way once it is on. Sitting between the two is FANCY, the forum's colour trend - multicoloured tortoise, iridescent finishes, neo-pastel tones.
Where the shows meet most clearly is mixed construction: acetate and titanium in a single frame. Two-tone fronts, acetate carrying the colour, titanium carrying the structure. Round and octagonal shapes are carrying it repeatedly in this week's Paris debuts, and rectangular styles are offered in both materials. It works in optical and sun alike, and it is a build we know well - different weight targets between the two lines, and hinge engineering that changes once the sun version takes heavier lenses.
So if you are planning next season's range, the takeaway is practical. These directions are named, tested on the fair floor, and buildable at OEM/ODM level: a sculpted acetate line for the statement shelf, a light titanium line for everyday wear, or a mixed line that gives you both.
Send a reference photo or a spec sheet, and we will come back with straight answers on material, weight and lead time.
